Mine KAWAKAMI
Pianist, Composer, Arranger
Born in Nagakute-cho, Aichi Prefecture in 1969.
Started playing the piano at age three. Graduated from Meiwa High
School in Aichi Prefecture.Received a Masters in Music from the
Department of Piano at Staatliche Musichochscule in
Munich.Completed graduate work in the Department of Piano (Perfeccionamiento
Course) at Real Conservatorio Superior de la Musica in
Madrid. Classically trained, Mine Kawakami formerly
performed concertos, chamber music, and solo piano concerts
(specializing in Beethoven, Messiaen, Schumann) in Germany, Japan,
the Netherlands, and Spain. One day, during her residence in
Spain, she was robbed of all her belongings and decided to pursue
her dream of moving to Cuba. From 1999 to 2000, she taught piano
at Escuela nacional de la Musica, the national music conservatory
of Cuba, and studied salsa and Latin jazz with local musicians.
After a nomadic existence, traveling around the world,
Mine returned to Japan and has since then based herself in Kyoto.
Today, she performs her original compositions in Japan, Germany,
Spain, Cuba, Columbia, Argentina, and Bolivia. She internationally
organizes music exchange programs with other musicians and
conducts piano workshops and intensive educational programs on the
seminal Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu (1930-96) at universities
around the world.
She
also composed and produced the music for the animation film series
"MORIZO and KIKKORO", the official mascots of the 2005
World Exposition, Aichi Japan, to be broadcasted by NHK (Japan
Broadcasting Corporation) television from April 2004 to April
2005.
She
was invited and performed at CUBADISCO 2005, el instituto cubano
de la musica y la serie internacioanl, held in May 2005 at Havana,
as one of the main guest.
